1. Management Commitment: Triangle management is committed to safety as our number one priority and conveys a strong message to all levels of employees, sub-contractors, and suppliers that Triangle intends to be a leader in the area of construction site safety. Safety is the first agenda item in every project managers’ meeting. 2. Experience: Safety director Ron Freeman developed Triangle’s initial written safety program in 1970 and since that time has administered the program as it has been expanded and updated to meet the ever-changing needs of our industry. Ron has taken advantage of numerous OSHA, AGC, Insurance and Industry Loss-Prevention Training Programs, and Institutes during his career, and has been able to pass much of this training along to Triangle personnel. 3. Employee Involvement: Our goal is to make sure all Triangle personnel are aware that they, the employees, are Triangle’s most valuable asset and the reason for, and focus of our safety program. Jobsite safety meetings are used as training opportunities, but also as a means of keeping employees informed of our accident experience, insurance rating (EMR) and other safety statistics. This allows them to stay focused on our goal of consistent improvement in these areas. 4. Monitoring: Triangle job superintendents have first line responsibility for safety on their project. The Safety Director and General Superintendent, however, are continually visiting our jobsites and assisting the superintendent with hazard recognition and potential safety violations. 5. Incentives “Safety” Barbecue - Triangle rewards each project that avoids lost time accidents with a catered barbecue luncheon. Any contractor, subcontractor, client, or architect representative involved with the project are invited to attend. Cash Bonuses - Triangle pays an annual “Safety Pays” bonus to all employees who have been employed for three months or longer to reward good accident experience. This bonus is paid the first week in December and is earmarked for Christmas shopping by most. We believe this serves to remind the employees that there are better ways to spend profit dollars than accident costs and insurance premiums. |
