Triangle Awarded Contract for Renovations to Lay Physical Activities Center at Furman University

Triangle Construction Company of Greenville has been awarded the construction contract for the renovations to the Herman W. Lay Physical Activities Center on the campus of Furman University. Triangle was general contractor for the original construction of the facility.

The Herman W. Lay Physical Activities Center was completed in the spring of 1973 and since that time has been the center for physical activity on the Furman campus. The PAC provides Furman with the facilities for one of the most extensive exercise science programs in the Southeast. The center houses the departments of Health and Exercise Science and Recreational Sports. Recreational space is available for students, faculty and staff, and a limited number of community memberships are offered. Fitness consultations and individual programming is offered to improve the quality of life on the Furman campus and surrounding community.

The complete renovation of the 60,000 square foot facility will be phased to allow for ongoing use by faculty and students. The project includes new HVAC and electrical systems, new finishes, a new fitness mezzanine within an existing gymnasium, new locker rooms, and new office space.

Construction began in December and the project is scheduled for completion by January of 2009.
